  1. The History of the World in 100 Objects

I bought the Yellow Stone Blu Ray for my folks. I figured as a first Blu
Ray it was a good way to go.

I already and the mp4 files from get_iplayer and wanted to see if the
disc had better quality.

In reality it did not look any better. The Sony TV they have only supports
up to 1080i (not p) but the gradients looked separated by colour
pallet. Distracting.

Animal Kingdom has totally blown me away. I saw District 9 and Watchmen at the
cinema but Animal Kingdom wowed me in a different way.

I have been a big fan of Guy Pearce movies since L.A. Confidential. I
liked his role in Rules of Engagement and he does seems to have a

knack of choosing very good projects, not only that but diverse ones
too.

Animal Kingdom as I was saying is a slow burner and not one the girlfriend is
going to tollerate but like There Will Be Blood you have to watch
closely and watch for the details and they pay dividends.

What makes it more interesting is the back story. Worth looking up.

The only thing that is confusing for me is that during one of the most
critical scenes. I won’t say what it is and if you are lucky you won’t
even notice but the quality of the film is right up there with say Heat
or Carlitos Way…

Desperately moving to watch and with a plot that you are drawn into
completely.

I particularly like the details. The road rage goons for example have a
printed transfer “For Sale” sticker in their back window. This just
reads so true. Very nice touch.

I had a good feeling about the film from the moment the film title
appeared over the brass engraving of the lion pride. Just the sort of
bad taste tack that these guys would have in their house. The slick
film style capture of this faux artwork with a stirring sound track
just makes for film that says, come with us, we know how to present
this story and our whole focus is just right.
